Sony has revealed that due to their recent pricecut in the US, the sales of their Playsation 3 Home Entertainment system have risen from a weekly 30,000 - 40,000 consoles sold to an avarage of 100,000 units sold. They also added that a brief surge in sales took place even before the launch of the new SKU during the week ending on Oct. 29.
Howard Stringer, Sony chairman and chief executive, claims that it’s the breakthrough they have been waiting for and they can now stop holding their breath.
Seeing as Black Friday has yet to be upon us, I can see Sony having quite the succesful holiday season with their Ps3 console. Now let’s just hope that it’ll be a success they can sustain.

Today Sony published a press release containing the information a lot of people have been waiting for - the pricing point for Singstar’s downloadable tracks.
The “game” itself will reatil for £24.99 (around €35) - or £49.99 (around €70) with two microphones - while additional tracks will be downloadable for £0.99 (around €1.50).
The price point is pretty good if you take into consideration that you not only get the sone but also the video as well as karaoke functionality. If Sony manages to correctly advertise the product as well as maintain a constant stream of downloadable song, they might generate quit a following.

Don’t feel guilty if you’re not leaping of joy - I’ve never heard about the game before neither.
That being said, the reason why it’s a feat that you can play the game on the PSP is because it’s a Ps3 game. I bet that got your attention. The game is playable through the Remore Play functionality that both the PSP and Ps3 share, making it possible for you to play the game on your handheld from anywhere in the world - as long as you’re connected to the internet.
This isn’t the only game that boasts such feature, as Lair already preceded this game but it’s nice to see that more games are having this possibility. This game is also much better suited for this seeing as it’s a slow-paced game.
I’m shocked Sony isn’t using this functionality as a selling point for certain games/genres.

It seems that Sony is actually listening to us consumers - something that was highly debatable when we got the 2.0 firmware earlier this month. They have partially redeemed themselves with the Uncharted demo, Customisable themes and now (well, in the very near future) DivX support.
TOKYO & SAN DIEGO, Nov 13, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) — DIVX | charts | news | PowerRating — DivX, Inc. (NASDAQ-IVX) today announced that DivX(R) video technology will be integrated into PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)) from Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE). The popular computer entertainment system will be added to the ecosystem of devices that currently support DivX video playback. To date, over 100 million DivX Certified(R) products have been shipped into the market, and it is anticipated PS3 will significantly expand that number.
“We are excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring DivX to PS3,” said Kevin Hell, CEO of DivX, Inc. “Our technology will expand the multimedia functionality of PS3 by enabling users to enjoy access to the broad library of content in the DivX digital media format.”
Products that bear the DivX Certified logo have undergone a rigorous testing program to ensure a high-quality DivX media experience that includes reliable video playback and excellent visual quality. DivX is currently working to certify PS3 and deliver a superior digital media technology to consumers in the near future. Current PS3 end users will be able to add DivX functionality to their systems via a separate system software update at a forthcoming date. PS3 game title developers will be able to utilize DivX’s decoder technology by updating the system software of PS3’s Software Development Kit to version 2.00, which was released by SCE on November 2nd.

Not according to the latest publications by the web’s major news outlets IGN, 1UP and Gamespy.
The general consensus is that while the technology behind the game and it’s overall presentation is impressive, the lack of variety in mission structure is this game’s biggest downfall. Every mission plays the about the same from the very beginning up until the credits start rolling - if you even want to make it that far.
The two latter mentioned publications both game the game a 7/10 rating, which on it’s own isn’t that bad - but it’s not what a lot of people were expecting.

Excuse me for the lacklister title, but it brings the message accross nice and easy.
Last Sunday, Sony cut the price of their Playstation 3 home entertainment system in Japan - as well as release a white version of it - and it looks like it did the trick in Japan. Ofcourse the launch of Dynasty Warriors 6 also had something to do with the sudden surge in sales, having sold around 180,000 copies it’s first day. Unfortunatly, weekly sales will be skewed seeing as both the cheaper/white Ps3 as Dynastty Warriors 6 came out on the last day of the week - giving us no real indication of how well their momentums are holding.
Guess we’ll have to wait ’till next week before we know whether or not the end of slow Ps3 sales have started in Japan.
